Science and Engneering Bio:
Sara Shahmohammadi is a senior structural engineer, researcher, musician, and poet. She has garnered a master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the prestigious University of Toronto and is a member of the Professional Engineers Canada. Sara has over 15 years of experience in providing analysis and design of industrial structures for major multi-disciplinary consulting engineering firms involved in (EPC) services. She has held a variety of roles and key management positions involving the construction of many noteworthy projects, interfacing and working closely with major international engineering firms, utilities /municipalities, general industry and governments – both domestic and international. Sara has completed several projects in Overseas, Canada and US, with a principle emphasis on oil and energy, nuclear, mining, petrochemical plants and water and wastewater treatment plants from concept development, feasibility study and preliminary design through to the detailed design and documentation and delivery stages. Sara has worked for Bantrel (Bechtel), Hatch, SNC Lavalin and WorleyParsons in Canada.
Sara musically studied singing and started vocal lessons and radif of Persian traditional music with an eminent Iranian composer, Master Hassan Yousefzamani and later many Iranians‘ singers and musicians and Western music coached by Canadian musician, Prof. Steven Henrikson and made a name for herself in music performance as a gifted singer. She has performed as soloist at numerous venues and frequently collaborating with and participating in local musical groups such as the acclaimed Silk Road Chamber Orchestra in Toronto performing Persian and Azerbaijani traditional music and has two music recordings to her credit. Sara has worked with a number of contemporary composers including Canadian Bassist, Shelly Berger, in a new direction as a proponent of contemporary classical works. She also studied briefly Setar (Iranian string instrument) and Piano.
